Shriram One
A super app for a lender, built around what the business actually does rather than around what its competitors had already shipped.
02The Brief
Shriram Finance's core products, lending, insurance and investments, had no real digital front door. Competitors were fighting over payments instead.
Shriram Transport Finance and Shriram City Union Finance merged to form Shriram Finance in December 2022, announced a year earlier, creating India's largest retail NBFC with ₹1,71,000 crore of AUM and over 6.7 million customers at the time of the merger. 03The Move
Built the super app around the actual core of the business. The merger brought two lenders and their whole product sets together at once, and the lending, investment and insurance journeys were rebuilt rather than carried across. Lending alone ran to about twenty products, each taken individually rather than as one flow with variations, with several teams working in parallel. This was a conventional build at scale, with engineering, product, data and QA delivering it; my seat was product design, UI and UX, and my part was the design direction the app was built to, held from inception. Lending is also the one with a number on it: roughly 70 pages of paper became an eKYC flow that approves a loan in about 20 minutes.
